Report of the Joint Meeting of “Brain Protein Aging and Dementia Control project” and PACTALS (Pan-Asia Consortium for Treatment and Research in ALS)

The joint meeting of “Brain Protein Aging & Dementia Control” and PACTALS was held at Grand Prince Hotel Kyoto on Thursday, September 27, 2017.
The theme of this meeting was “Promoting Excellence in ALS Registry and Research”. 10 researchers including 4 invited from abroad talked on this theme.

After the presentation of the cutting-edge researches by young investigators and hot topics in ALS by Professor Masato Hasegawa and Osamu Onodera, participants actively talked and discussed how to establish the collaborative consortium of ALS internationally (PACTALS) and how to accelerate the international collaborative researches in the area of Asia and Oceania.

In the meeting, some preceding efforts of ALS registry in the North America and Europe as well as ongoing efforts in Asia and Oceania were also reported. In connection therewith, we could successfully introduce the large-scaled ALS registry in Japan, which is closely related to “Brain Protein Aging and Dementia Control” our research field.

For promoting the collaborative researches, all participants actively exchanged their information and opinions such as the necessity of agreement for sharing core data suitable for Asian countries in order to promote the cooperation among members.

We are glad to report that the joint meeting was very significant and finished successfully. We would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to you all.
